LONELINESS
I’m never lonely but always alone,
My mind is an island my private home,
No one need love me I’ll get by,
I was alone at birth as I’ll be when I die.
Yet only once was I lonely being alone,
A boy on a mountain a long way from home,
Fearing the sounds of nature every night,
Learning to cope with things out of my sight.
I emerged stronger and wiser having been afraid,
The effects of loneliness beginning to fade,
Discovering that loneliness is not being alone,
But the lack of confidence being away from home.
But loneliness is not a choice we make,
For we can’t always choose the path we take.
