INNER CONNECTION

What ties man to the universal soul?
What inner connection links him to a friend?
What unseen magic makes the Earth revolve?
What message to one another do we send?
There was a burning fire, each of us a flame
That now, as separate fires, from the ashes burn
Linking us by blood if not by a name
That from this immortal fire we must learn.
None, with much effort, seek out who you are;
Delve not into the substance of your soul
For out of themselves they can’t climb very far
Thus never share the wonderment of your whole
Keep red the coals; keep warm the tiny flames;
For in each one there lives a million names
