IF

If the character of God lives in his children,
Then I have no desire to be a God,
For I could not bring myself to let them suffer,
That through life in anguish they plod.
I would not allow starvation and warfare,
I’d not allow thoughts that lead men to kill,
There would be peace for all Earthlings to share,
No masters; no King of the hill.
Disease would be stricken from existence,
Sickness would be a thing of the past,
Over lies truth would be more persistent;
Friendships would be more loyal and last;
And love would be more than cacoethes,
It would not deceive the die of its cast.
