I WISH THAT I COULD BE LIKE YOU
~ 1 ~
I wish that I could be like you,
have faith in all the stuff they preach,
and love my God and think it true,
that heaven is not quite out of reach.
I wish like you I could believe,
that Jesus died to save my soul,
that when I die I will receive,
a gracious spirit to make me whole.
For yet my life has long been sad,
my love so wasted with my youth,
that all the things that people had,
for me were painfully aloof.
For now when I should love the most,
I am as empty as a ghost.
~ 2 ~
Do all who age lose what they feel;
retire without a shadow to cast
lest what one lacks will be revealed
as something that can never last?
I’ve lost my warmth my tender smile,
my strength to show that I’m a man,
for I could not walk a single mile,
so damn defeated, that I am.
So what am I to sit and write,
fancy words that time will waste,
like a dying star in the night,
that once the sky so defaced?
All that I am lives now in words
that lead my thoughts to more absurds
