I WISH

I wish that God had given me the will to be,
What in my friends I’m often proud to see,
That I could share their God as my own,
Away from whom I long since have outgrown.
I make no choice to think a certain way,
My thoughts decide and thus my thoughts I say,
For though I long to, I still cannot perceive,
What I was taught and told I must believe.
Tis simple truth I hope their faith is true,
That I might well find heaven with them too.
Yet if I am to meet a worse demise,
Their God will know my truth was never lies,
That I fear no harsh reprisal from his wrath,
For I have followed a lifelong honest path.
