I DON’T KNOW WHY
What we hear depresses our hearts and minds,
of distorted societies with conflicts of all kinds
Of dictatorial rulers, terrorists and greed,
starving masses where disease from famine breeds.
They pray to the Lord for help, but it does not come,
and more children die as each day is done,
While a wealthy world distorted by its own delight,
Feasts in the false freedoms of its treasured might.
The great God watches with indifferent eye,
While the innocent and helpless in agony die,
While those who praise him reap the benefits of wealth,
Those who can say “God gives us health”
But God’s true children still wither and die,
And I wake up in a sweat, because I don’t know why.
