HONOURABLE THOUGHTS
~ 1 ~
It is not honourable to seek your own glory
and honour is not befitting a fool,
Though a trickster may tell a good story,
He rides not a horse but a mule.
Though flattery may hide his deceit,
The coating of glaze on his lip
Will wear off with the constant repeat
That will cause him to stumble and slip.
Love held in silence is a burden,
As great as the burden of hate,
But to rebuke another with wisdom
Is goodwill for the other man’s sake.
And only a fool remains in the open,
Where danger rides close in his wake.
~ 2 ~
You are proved by the praise you receive,
Be it better when given by peers,
It is selfish to cry and to grieve,
Yet more selfish to render self cheers.
If you hide your mistakes you will fail,
But to declare them will bring you relief,
For the truth will shorten detail,
And admonishment is sure to be brief.
When the righteous lose the battle and yield,
The wicked will rise briefly to power,
But the blood will dry on their shield,
As their enemies spoils they devour,
Then the righteous will take to the field,
Where in fear they will cringe and will cower.
~ 3 ~
A guilty man will run from his cover,
And will be quick to take up offence,
As the idle will sit scoffing each other,
In a mode of foolish pretence.
You can believe in whatever you please,
So long as its truth is good,
Though no man in the region agrees,
You’ll never be drowned by their blood.
Treat not those as servants, who serve you;
The Kings value is in the men he can hire,
A Captain who hasn’t a crew,
Is only as good as those he can fire.
Give love whether or not it is due,
And the true with vanquish the liar.
