EARTHLINGS ALL

Earthlings all, we graze in one large field,
Yet we divide it into plots and parts,
Fearing one another we brandish shields,
For desire to own it all lives in our hearts.
Trust not your neighbour for he trusts not you,
He measures your success by what you own,
He’ll try to beat you down so you must too,
That’s the way our human society has grown.
Yet when we dare to cross our neighbour’s moat,
His castle blends into a different scene,
For what we thought was absent and remote,
Turns all the harsh brown deserts brightly green.
And we discover there is no real divide,
For friendship destroys the fear in between.
