DEBATE

So little is learned in agreement,
Tis from criticism one aspires,
Like discovery of sweet freedom
That is born from turbulent fires.
Being friendly reaps no progress,
When kindness is the fool,
For without debate we can’t assess,
Which is the better rule.
Few people speak with honesty
Who state not their point of view;
And believing something blindly,
Makes not their spirit true:
We were given minds to think with
And tongues to talk things through.
