BEAUTY IN SADNESS

There is such beauty in sadness,
Such wonderment in woe,
Which is greater than gladness,
For love is more eager to show.
It cannot be hidden
In a postulated smile,
For all pretence is forbidden,
At least for a while.
When a loved one is lost,
‘Tis great love that we feel,
Sadness the cost,
Is how that love is revealed.
And we savour it most,
As we begin slowly to heal.
