ADVICE FOR THE ADVISABLE

~ 1~

Dreams of grandeur materialize as naught,
Hope ties the mind to an impossible claim,
Expectation often leaves us distraught,
Walking with crutches will leave you quite lame.
It is yourself that you must rely on,
Not on some imposed imaginative belief,
It is not about a victory to be won:
It matters not who is the spiritual chief.
Stand strong, be bold and defiant,
Yet be humble and know when to strike,
The nature of politics will always be pliant,
Follow your heart and the doctrine you like.
Make steady haste up the side of the mountain,
And learn from every step of your hike.

~ 2 ~

We are all brainwashed to believe in a notion,
To believe in our country and state,
That our thinking becomes a clouded devotion,
That what has been imposed is all we relate.
In a dream world we fail to discern truth,
We see only the perpetual lie,
Never seeking to uncover the proof,
We let inaccuracies and lies pass us by.
But we can be more patriotic than spoiled,
If we use common sense and think for ourselves,
Without basing our choices on soiled,
Documented endorsements on dust-covered shelves.
Time reveals all to us all, well, to our children,
Who become wiser the deeper we delve.

~ 3 ~

We are all racist, biased and vain,
All boxcars linked to the same train.
We lie to ourselves and to others,
For our friends and also for brothers.
We hide behind comment and law,
In this free society we claim to adore,
Being afraid to say what we think,
Lest we hear the sound of the jail door clink.
Oh what a society of puppets we are.
