THE DEBATES GO ON
There are, to my best vision, discrepancies,
in all the works that old history relates,
That modern critics exploit to suit their purpose,
And stir up postulations and debates.
Shakespeare's works still mingle doubt with truth,
And Troy still lies undiscovered in the past,
For where there is opinion, (thus no proof),
From such debates our scholars will not fast.
Politicians, Priests, and writers all take sides,
According to the bias of their thought,
Though none know who it is who decides,
What tomorrow's children will be taught.
So it goes on the rivalries of sides,
That even future Histories they'll distort.
