HAS IT ALL BEEN SAID?
Has it all been said, these simple words I write?
Are these fresh mornings filled with ancient light?
Some do compare me to old scripts of choice,
Trying to introduce a quiver to my calmer voice.
What right then has the scripts of ancient muse,
Deceiving past truth with self opinionated views
To influence those in office who from it gain;
Dwelling in little back rooms from where they reign.
For Kings and crowns, Archbishops, and the like
Are, by their old ancient bards, called on to strike
With all the venom those who do it for them craft,
On all who oppose the verses of their draft;
Until the needs of modern freer thought
Discover poets whom threat cannot distort.
