ALL IN A DAY'S WORK
The four horse coach came rolling, quite contentedly along,
The armed drivers companion, was singing a merry song,
They carried the royal mail from Windsor, bound for old Sydney town.
While other armed men inside wished the other would tone it down.
They came suddenly upon a body lying like dead upon the road
So the driver drew back the horses to stop the rolling load.
He handed his companion the reins and started to dismount,
But he lost his balance as he heard the dreaded shout.
"Bail up or be killed" said the body leaping from the road,
Turning the horses across the coach pole forward he strode,
Then he was on the box seat and with a blunderbuss in his face,
The drivers companion did not argue lest it lead to disgrace.
The driver unhitched the horses doing exactly as he was told,
While the passengers lined the roadside afraid of this man so bold:
"Empty out your pockets!" said another bushranger coming near,
And yet another picked up the purses grinning from ear to ear.
The mail bags were ripped open any mail with money in them read,
The tallest told a passenger he liked his trousers "Take 'em off!" he said
So they took away his trousers leaving him shivering in the cold,
They also took two horses and rode off rich and bold.
