ADVICE TO OUR GIRL
Of your own wonderment always be aware,
Yet not in conceit of beauties favoured face.
Bewilder no friend with lie or false reward,
Nor lend nor borrow, for both will reap disgrace.
Treasure your thoughts declare them not in word,
By words you're judged as oft as by attire
That fits by uniform, an oft unwanted vogue
As an eager smile oft falsely deems desire.
Hear and listen, that another's favoured view,
Yet meets respect without a keen debate.
Honour your friends, those who have proven true,
Fear not love of those your friends do hate.
Keep faith in trust; faith in your own true soul,
Give love, give truth, but never give your whole.
