PERHAPS

Slaughter on the battlefield:
nonsensical torrid waste.
Or is war prescribed by reason
to determine future fate.
Could the human world survive
without the cull of war,
Without some drastic measure
a future to ensure?
The more affluent we become
the numbers will increase,
More people seem to gather
in fields of tranquil peace.
So perhaps there is reason
Why warfare does not cease.
