THE UNANSWERABLE QUESTION
How does a deaf mute blind man think;
What language trains his brain
Who has, with God, no living link;
No way to know his name.
Had not you told me, would I know
Lost tribes had heard no word?
Would I, with all such wisdom, grow;
Or is the thought absurd?
Here lays the question never framed:
Is God within before
Our tutors scribed him on our brains;
Before we even saw
The words upon the written page
That would those thoughts restore?
