CAN ONE STEAL VALOUR?

Awarded: October 17, 2006Could one of letters, numbers, or much worse,
Steal valour from a hero with a verse?
Such a thief might well be God himself,
Or yet a spirit taking back his health.
Are we not as survivors made wannabes,
Veterans who with certain vision, see
Themselves as bodies where their comrades lie,
For many living still desire to die!?
Do we not count ourselves as one of them,
Who lost their lives alongside other men,
For whom we raise our flag for all to view,
Though absent are the very noble few?
I think perhaps the rhyme and verse we scribe,
Cannot steal valour or a veteran’s pride.
