COMPUTER TIME
Longing for the days
of bikes and trucks
long walks and talks
guns and hunting ducks.
Poker on Friday nights
going to football and baseball
a smoker in black and white
holding hands in the hall.
Sitting on the porch swing
listening to records of old
reading of a good book
once this was a tale told.
Now who reads or plays
who owns a black and white
grease from the old truck
or counting stars at night?
Is there still a top ten chart
please explain a 'smoker'
and books are for nerds
with no time for any poker.
Now we hear in plaintive
voices lamenting long alone
"TURN THAT COMPUTER..."
a little peace and quiet at home.
Once there was just serenity
when the dinner turned cold
for the truck was necessary
and he was too dirty to hold.
Plus the poker was only once
and there were six other nights
also where else could you see
Sugar Ray or Willie Pep fights.
But this computer has to go
morning, noon, evening yuck!
"just one more minute... hon"
never finding any kind of luck.
Worse they now wants to go
shopping in the mall, forbid
the gadget shops proliferate
like a little star gazed kid.
No more hugs in the halls
or sitting at night on the swing
just that dumb glow and clicking
look away a neck I'm gonna ring.
Can't use the guns anymore
rust in the barrels from non-use
and that belly isn't from beer
it's from becoming a recluse.
Computer time will now commence
in one hour there will be a break
two hours off so we can walk,
talk, hold hands, jump in a lake!
AAAAAAAAAGGGGGGGGgggg
GGGGGrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr ugh!
%^*()&)(%$()&*&)_*_*)^%^%$(
all this just to get a warm hug

Author’s Note: Hi all - in my attempt at some humor - the poem 'Computer Time' may have sent the wrong message. It was written for some friends of mine involved in Fantasy Football - we are all winding down - after a 17/18 week season – the leagues are over (except keepers) - and one of them had commented on the 'spouses' request for; dinner, shopping, a date, etc. So I was trying to make light of it - Chuck
