BRIDESMAID
Ever reaching the altar
finding another there
courage to not falter
such love freely to share
Holding hands in moments
hearing another’s name
reminded of covenants
hoping some day the same.
Death ever lingers here
the brave soldiers leave
where only strangers fear
at home widows grieve.
Thus as the bridesmaid
sharing this last emotion
before taps to be played
held in sacred confirmation
