EMMA HEALESS
I AM A POPPY
I blew in the wind,
surrounded by death
and wept for the loved ones lost.
I saw the men fall before me
Each one as brave as the last;
Too young to fight,
Too young to perish,
Too young to meet this end.
I will stay and guard the lost forever,
And watch over where they fell
As a reminder in years to come,
For I am a poppy.
