Paul S. Gifford

A DARK PLACE

I am writing this verse,
from a dark, dark place;
yes it’s so very dark in here.
I am feeling empty,
and all alone,
and wish to disappear.

Yes, I’m writing this verse,
from a dark, dark place,
and I do not mean the room.
I feel despondent,
and awfully sad,
and swallowed up by gloom.

But in wring this verse,
from that dark, dark place;
I can distinguish a shard of light.
For writing these words
and venting my soul
relieves me from my plight.
