HIS NAME IS MCALEAR
Stand Fast – Now gather ‘round,
For I have news of Brother Kim – some say he’s gone to ground.
He’s done his last patrol and gone off up the track;
He took his name and number, and he’ll not journey back:
He’s taken all he needs, for his journey past the Sun,
Just his name and number, this McAlear, 55191.
His mortal gear, he’s left behind him, it’s not needed on this run;
For he’s gone beyond the living and his roving days are done:
He’s taken his last parade, among the rank and file,
And has proudly marched to Glory in true Australian style.
For he’s headed off to Glory, to family and mates;
And from now on you will find him at the Hotel Pearly Gates:
And take heart we will find when our time down here is up,
When, at the end of the line of shadows, we have our Glory Cup.
So for the moment, keep his heart and memory clear;
Until we get to join him, and the folk we hold so dear:
Lest We Forget 55191 – Stand Easy.

Author’s Note: Kim McAlear was born in Derby in the late 1940s and joined the SASR early in his life and was one of our few professional soldiers. Service took its toll on him and he died this week.
