AWAKENING
I had escaped my nemesis
the depression and despair
my day was blessed by sunshine
my soul was blessed with prayer
I walked a path I'd traveled
many times when I'd been sad
In natures hand I'd tried so hard
to recapture what I'd had
The trees were greener now
than I'd ever seen before
The sky a bright cerulean blue
above the forest floor
but slow I came to realize
the path I took was strange
a path I'd walked a hundred times
somehow seemed to change
for just the slightest moment
I believed I may be lost
I did not recognize these trees,
or rocks enshrined in moss
I stopped and sat upon a log
to sort the mystery out
near to me a small bird sang
as I slowly gazed about
and then it all came clear to me
as I looked around
in my despair, in all my walks
I was always looking down
