GOD BLESSED THE U.S.A.
As I stood just off the runway
Looking ‘cross the Berkshire Hills,
I watched a C5 touching down and trembled with a chill.
A thousand people stood beside me
On that great and glorious morn,
To cheer our tired heroes coming home from Desert Storm.
It was “Operation Patriot”, Westover Air Force Base,
Where a gentle man named Walker
Turned it into quite the place.
In a building called Base Hanger,
Where the signs all hung with pride,
We welcomed back our heroes, coming home both day and night.
From the faraway sands of Desert Storm, across the mighty seas,
To bases all across our Land, they came home through Chicopee.
Westover was their gateway to cheers and tears each day,
We shook the hands of a thousand heroes: God blessed the U.S.A.
They came home to their mothers
And they came home to their wives.
To their husbands, sons, and daughters, to return to normal lives.
They all shared one bond in common
They all came when country called.
We partied with a thousand heroes, brave warriors one and all.
From the faraway sands of Desert Storm, across the mighty seas,
To bases all across our Land, they came home through Chicopee.
Westover was their gateway to cheers and tears each day,
We shook the hands of a thousand heroes: God blessed the U.S.A.
