Richard J. Dunn: Vietnam Memorial

VIETNAM MEMORIAL
(Perth, Western Australia)

Looking out, looking in
Who will lose, who will win?
Who will live who will die?
Embrace the earth, enjoy the sky

Nothing changes now or then
Still are boy's still are men,
Silent the bugles! No! Still they call,
In years to come, another wall?

Another name, lest we forget
Another life with which to bet.
Your son, my son, who will choose
Who will win, who will lose?

Author’s Note: In July of 1997 I was in Hollywood Clinic Perth WA, with a number of other Veterans. On one particular day during our stay we were taken to the Vietnam War Memorial situated in Kings Park. One of the men who had never had the strength to visit the site before, stood at the opening of the shrine, with his head bowed, and with God only knows what going through his mind, and I felt moved to write this poem.
