PAINTED WORDS

I remember when the Unknown Soldier of the Great War was being brought home to Australia in 1993; I wrote... from the depths of my heart...

Poem 1...

I watched them bring him home you see
And laid to rest with dignity.
I watched them bring him home you see
I watched and wished that it was me.

Poem 2...

ANZAC Day...
and, as you watch us marching by
Look to the row's between
Imagine there the boys that were
and the Men they should have been.

Poem 3...

Again we hear the bugle's call
By chance we see a tear drop fall.
Someone's Mother, Lover, Wife
Dare we ask, what price a life?

Poem 4...

We cannot ask the ones who died
As they lie silent side by side
We never ask the one's who live
What it was they had to give
