This painting was chosen as "Best of Show" in the Michigan VA Creative Arts Festival in 2002 and went on to win a second place in the acrylic paint division at the National Competition in Oklahoma City in 2002.

It is from a photo of the times and shows a soldier on patrol. He appears dirty and exhausted and is beginning to have that look, often called the thousand yard stare. This painting was done to honor those who were always there for me as I was and always will be there for them.
