LONESOME MEMORIES

Watching the sun preparing to set in the western horizon
I feel the sense of a day slowly come to a close
And ready for the darkness to settle in

Deep inside my soul, I feel the longing for
Those who have passed on before me
Missing my grandfather, missing my grandmother

Their stories of days gone by
One from a tribe that traveled along many plains
The other from a people from a far off land

As the sky's hues of pink, purple, yellow and orange
Change into a dark, nighttime bluish black
The wind waving itself in and amongst the mesquite tree

Absorbing the evening light through the paneled sheers
Feeling the deep, sad lonesomeness of days gone by
Shedding a tear or two deep within my soul

Faint talking and laughter entering the silent evening hour
Remembering the loving, safe, and secure memories
Of those who have resided at the Diamond R

Calling out from my heart and soul:
"Grandfather, Grandmother, I am grown, I am a teacher"
"I live up to my name: MahTameDayAhnttAhGyAh"
