A LESSON IN CRITICISM
Sometimes when I've been hurt
I want to lash out and react meanly
Thinking and speaking harshly
Of people and their characteristics
I fall into the trap of being critical
Then become a victim of criticism
How hard it is to bite my tongue
And stop the release of false pride
What have I gained from speaking
Or thinking cruel actions for them?
What if they need our love as much
As we need to learn to speak lovingly
Of them? What if they are struggling
To do their best, can we see them in
A kindlier light? Talking positively?
If I strive to think only good of others,
No matter if treated right or not,
Then perhaps I have been given
Freedom of the tendency to criticize
