LONESOME PRAIRIE

IWVPA Club Recognition of Outstanding Non-War Related Writing: June 26, 2007
Awarded: June 26, 2007
Sitting on the lonesome prairie
Heeding its beckoning call
Winds howling from the north
Tumbleweeds rolling to and fro
Melodies of melancholy sung
In the swaying prairie grasses
Consoling the weeping heart
Tears picked up and sprinkled
Across the low ebbed ponds
Missing terribly love from the
Grandfathers and grandmothers

Leaning back on the pond’s banks
Stretching out legs and folding arms
Snuggling near an old, fallen log
Feeling the chilly wind brushing
Wisps of long hair into my face
Absorbing the windy sounds near
Staring up into the cold, gray sky
Listening to the solemn solitude
Wondering what future life will be
Becoming a part of the land and air
Awaiting for comfort from ancestors
