Melanie C. Campos ~ MahTame

I’M A WONDERING AGAIN…

I wonder if I went bald
Would it make me feel
Cooler than this miserable
Heat that has settled here

But then, I’d have to keep
My head covered ‘cause
I’d be in worse shape if
It got sunburned and peels

I wonder if I could make
My hair into a flowing
Waterfall with self-regulated
Temperatures to comfort me

Right now, it would have to
Be in the settings of the 60’s
Or less to thwart the heat
Index that keeps rising of late

Or I wonder if I could turn
My hair into a natural turban
And freeze it to keep in place
But, naw, it’ll drip as it melts

Keeping it up high in a pony-tail
But the sweating makes for
An irritating and annoying itch
That causes a constant scratching

I wonder if I could have my hair
Braided in numerous corn rows
But then the length would hang
On my shoulders, adding to the heat

Guess I’ll quit wondering and
Keep it all up off my neck and face
Drinking lots of iced cold water
And wait again for the cool night air
