GOODNIGHT MY LOVED ONES
In the stillness of evening
Watching the sun sets yon
Pale yellows light up the sky
Across the mountain horizon
One last glow of warmth
To cover the pasture grand
‘Tis time to head back home
As ancestors return to the land
Daw-K’gee[1] comforts the cry
Embracing the lonesome soul
Evening stars enter the night
Whip-per-will’s melody cajole
Soft breezes whisper in trees
A coyote howls down the hill
Echoes of memories replay
Kiowa songs of prayer instill
‘Goodnight my loved ones
Rest until we meet again’
The work of day is not far off
Our strength we must regain
