Melanie C. Campos ~ MahTame

DON’T PRETEND TO CARE

There are many reasons to this emotion
The list is tattered yet keeps growing
Want to just sit and stare out into space
Or run away to the farthest hill and yon

Life is throwing out punches and thorns
Sickness and death looming nearby
Folks been leaving loved ones behind
As we keep asking “Why, oh why?”

You say you are there for me, yet not
When words cannot be expressed clearly
The analytical approach becomes yours
While I’m mourning for those I loved dearly

Don’t ask if you care not to really know
How one is feeling; if truth is not hearable
Bad news is what is happening lately
Making things hard to hold up and bearable

‘Thou hath comforteth me not,’ says Juliet
Like the nurse who feigned a caring word
This is what has impressed upon my heart
A falseness of pretending to care is absurd
