Melanie C. Campos ~ MahTame

NOT AS ENEMY OR FOE, BUT MY FRIEND

I’d rather not think of your death
And buried in a graveyard of sorts
The man I’ve come to understand
Whose opinions and idea retorts
To watch on a screen his memoir
As played with favorite song or tune
Images from birth to present age
His thoughts have become immune
I’d be rather saddened and mourn
Yet blessed to have him in my life
A Gent, An Aussie, a man, a mate
Who has helped many out of strife?
To understand the paths he walked
A childhood of dreams, in hardship
Young man who fought in Vietnam
Surviving battles with PTSD is a trip
I’d think of him then as I do now
Should his life did expire and end
The honest qualities he exuded
Not as enemy or foe; but my Friend
