Melanie C. Campos ~ MahTame

HOW COULD YOU KNOW?

What was your life before
The times that you went to war?
Were you happy and go-lucky
Or was your world sad ‘n’ yucky?

Then you went to the military
Taught how to defeat the enemy
Drills, drills, drills, to prepare
Did you know you’d kill out there?

Some veterans cannot remember
The body and guts dismembered
They know it was quite present
‘Cause the gunfire boomed and sent

Others saw, felt, smelled, tasted all
Recorded in a mind’s eye and soul
To be remembered as they age in life
The bloody sacrifice was hellish strife

Did you know, Soldier, did you know
That the ultimate price you’d undergo?
How could you know, how could you
Know that some would die or live too?
