WHERE HAVE ALL THE GOOD ONES GONE?

It didn’t take much to get me to say hello
When I was a child you trusted everyone
But as I got older so much had changed
Now my son walks with me tied to a leash
You can’t even trust a person at the store
Everything you buy has to be checked over
Sometimes I wonder how we got by
Never being afraid to turn out the light
Always being strong even though
Someone out there was possibly
A stranger waiting to take hold
Now we are a paranoid race
Running home from work
Running from place to place
Carrying mace in our purse
Or a gun in our glove box
Whatever happened to those days?
When we didn’t have to protect ourselves
That was why we had the police
I never trusted anyone after I was abused
I never will trust any guy
For fear of being used
I know that times have changed
Since I was a child
But nothing will erase
The memories
Of innocence
And life
