WE WHO REMAIN

As the memorial pages grow thicker
It seems that the tears come quicker
As the list becomes longer
Grief also grows stronger
We can stand together or alone
Until all of us are gone…

But what is the definition of gone
when all we have done is just moved on.
The memories we share in this life
will go on even in the afterlife
where heaven and its angels open the gates
and we are with those lost
after we remained

We stand together until the end
Sharing burdens and pain within
And as we slip behind the veil
We’ll find each other standing there
Until that day when we are called
We’ll hold each other lest we fall
We’ll make memories of words and love
Then fly away on the wings of a dove

If I go before you do,
Believe these words for, they are true.
Along with friends who went before,
I’ll stand to greet you at Heaven’s door.
‘Tis true we leave behind our friends,
Who, now on others must depend.
Like many more I’d have no regrets,
Knowing I lived to be my best.
‘Till then, a friend is what I’ll be,
A friend who loves for eternity.

Never forgetting those gone before,
Remembering their gifts that made my life better,
Tender touches, hugs, guidance.
Sometimes from those eyes never saw
but hearts that reached across the miles to comfort.
Friends and kin in special ways,
Caring without the eyesight;
blindness, enfolding each in gentle wonder.
Speaking without always agreeing,
Accepting that we humans should be different.
