ONLINE FRIENDS

It feels great to be online
Not really knowing exactly why
I feel such joy among my friends
In this place we call the internet

There were times where I wanted to give up
Every time my computer had a hiccup
But I have learned to keep the pace
And get along no matter how hard
The race

To be with friends and family alike
These people I’ve come to know online

There is Col and Tony, too
Allison and JJ and Faye, too

They have known me
Forever and a day

Now there are others who’ve come my way

Granny and Mel, and Butterfly Dancer
Others I’m learning have been there
Forever

I know these childish words I write
Make sense to those who read
Between the lines

There have been others who came my way
Some have passed, others just drifted away

I know that this is not because of me
But I have to admit I can feel like a jinx

Especially on the days
When those who died
Never had I chance
To say my heartfelt
Goodbyes

I look forward to the days
When I make new friends
But I can never forget
The ones with the most
Impact

Like Becky and Poppa
And Steve, that big bear
Of a man

I dread the days
When those tears come again

But until the time
When God makes the call
To bring someone I love
To his lovely home
I will cherish the time
I spend online
Writing my reasons
Into silly little rhymes
