NIGHTMARE IN THE DAY

Sleeping on the couch unable to wake up,
Dreaming a dream she thought had departed,
Dreaming of someone she’d rather forget,
Someone she hated but apparently not yet,
The dream kept coming and her defenses,
Ran high as she screamed his name,
Grabbing a sharp knife she sliced at his skin,
As he came at her again she screamed,
And she screamed but no help was there,
Try as she might she kept hanging in,
Stabbing with the knife again and again,
Blood on his face and the knife in his belly,
She suddenly wakes up and hears the name,
Over and over again the name she screamed,
As her own life she defended…
