A WILD TURKEY HEN
Today I saw a
Wild turkey hen,
She was free in the woods,
Not in a pen!
She crossed the road
In front of my truck;
And quietly she stood,
Not even a cluck!
She stopped beside the road
And we had a talk;
I, in English, then she
Continued her walk.
That bird, my language
She couldn't discern;
And she was too busy to stay,
And my language to learn!
She held her head high,
Looked up in the sky,
And gently walked away
Without saying 'good-bye'!
I hope for her
A lifetime of ease;
With plenty to eat
Beneath the oak trees!
I'm glad that birds are free,
As God intended them to be;
And, LORD, that turkey hen
Made me think of Thee!
You intend for all men,
From sin to be free;
That's what You've done for others,
And that's what You've done for me!
