A DETERMINED SPIDER
As I made my path
To the lake today.
A spider web there was,
Blocking my way.
Now this very spider
Is not the one who
Sat down "beside her",
Of the poem I knew.
But this spider is wise
Who sees my path,
Daily to the edge of the lake,
And a trap he makes.
He makes the web anew
Always every night,
So as to catch this man
Who is always in his sight!
What does he think to do
With one of my size?
He knows that if he catches me
He will have a prize.
One thing I'll say for him,
He sets his goals very high.
He daily spins his web
Hoping to catch me by and by!
His web is always in its place
And always hits me in the face.
A spider web is so intimidating
And always so aggravating.
This spider must have more brawn
Than he has brain,
For his web is always out,
Even in the rain.
Oh, that man had such lofty goals
Which he would never forsake;
And like that determined spider,
Another web he'd make,
Until he had gained the prize,
And beheld with his eyes,
The fruition of his goal,
Prior to getting old!
