WILD FLOWERS
I’m just a simple guy
who, in ages past,
learned how to fly
way up in God’s blue sky!
Learning there to be
peacefully content;
with scenes below moving
opposite the way I went!
What a happy joyful time
I had in my prime;
like writing simple poetry
when everything rhymes.
Now what do wildflowers
have to do with flight?
Well, some are just as blue
as the sky in which I flew!
God painted the sky
with His blue and gold,
and all colors in between,
as He did with flowers seen!
There are flowers
which man plants,
watered and fed,
their beauty to be shed.
But wildflowers are
planted by God in
unusual private places
unashamed to show their faces!
God waters them with rain
and feeds them, time and again.
They have such special birth
from the secret places in the Earth!
I have seen them in the wild
with pretty faces turned to the sky;
blooming there for God to see;
just two of us, God and me.
I thank God for all the wildflowers
which bloom through many hours;
lifting their faces to the sky
so that I may see as I go by.
On country roads when I drive,
I stop and talk to them in the sod;
telling how good it is to be alive,
and to have a Gardener, who is God!
Wildflowers are special,
the very best of flowers,
which are never picked
and placed in ivory towers.
Never pick a wildflower,
leave it to bloom where it is;
For a Higher Power made it
and it is forever His!
I have met a few folks
who remind me of wildflowers;
for they too are so very special,
serving God for days and hours.
I had such a special friend
who came in a Summer wind,
but when leaves began to fall,
she wasn’t there at all.
Such sorrow it is when
we think a friend is a wildflower,
only to learn by their departure
that a casual friendship turns sour!
True wildflowers never turn away,
for they are here to stay.
Take my advice and be friends
with all wildflowers along life’s way.
