EASY LISTENING MUSIC
My companion is music of the soul.
Through the long nights since WWII
this music has served to make me whole.
Veteran friend, I pray this is true for you.
Instrumental music played by “Music Choice”
has a way of invading every mind,
even more than words sung by voice.
It is like sight given to the blind.
Forgotten, for a season, are the nights
which are filled with nightmarish dreams;
dreams filled with memories of awful fights
taking one back to the past, it seems.
The piano of Floyd Cramer playing,
“It Had To Be You”,
or Jack Dorsey’s “Goodbye To Love”,
chases away all that’s blue.
The color of blood upon the ground is red,
be it from an infantryman or airman;
it matters not which, for both are dead
as the red elixir flows through the sand!
What song shall we play
to take away the pain?
This memory cannot be washed
away, even with the rain!
Some soldiers of the war
must bear the memory of the dead,
for sweet sounds of music
goes no farther than the head!
