D-DAY MINUS FOUR

On England's shore we wait for orders
orders to board the ships and planes...
to storm Normandy's beaches
in spite of strong winds and rains...

Yet the orders do not come
for the weather is not right...
so we sit and talk, play cards
and try to sleep at night...

Smoke cigarettes; tell jokes
but few laughs do we hear...
for we are bored at smoking
joking and swigging Limy beer...

On D-Day plus one
who will remain alive...
after Normandy's red beaches
how many will survive...

Will the waters turn red
where free men have bled...
its better to have been bored
than to lie on the beaches dead...
