COMING BACK

"Coming Back
Life; not death!
Today: not yesterday!"

Author’s Note: At some future time I may say a few more words regarding this potent poem of six words: What I can, and will say, is that this marks a mile-post in my heart and mind for now, though I have PTSD; PTSD does not have me. Though I have nightmares; nightmares do not have me. Essentially, then, this is the meaning of the change within my soul. I shall live for today, yet with a keen eye upon the good things of tomorrow, which Almighty God has promised. All that He has promised, He will deliver.

The past is gone... it cannot be changed, though memories are not silent. In spite of memories, I shall dwell upon living through this day, gathering all the beautiful entities as one would gather flowers in the making of a bouquet. Life is worth caring and sharing as one travels the road less traveled. No man is an island to himself, says the sage of the past, however the same man can build a pier inviting free docking to other crafts. Welcome to my Island, you who are weary of sailing the seven seas of disappointment!

Webmaster's Note: This poem expresses the joy of a man who, after nearly sixty years of coping with the effects of the illness known today as PTSD, has accepted his lot and has decided to live rather than await death. There is more to this story but I shall leave it up to Doug to decide if, when, and how to tell it:
