AT THE VA TODAY
At the VA today
Let me tell you what I saw.
I saw a husky man in a wheel chair,
But his two legs were not there!
I stopped and talked a bit with him,
And asked how he lost his limbs.
"Twas in Nam", said he
"That they took my legs from me."
I could easily see
That he had two legs of steel
As he sat in that unusual chair,
That chair on wheels!
I saw others who walked
With aid of walking cane.
What a story each could tell
Of suffering and pain.
My heart saluted each man
As down the corridor they went,
For many a battle they went through
And now their youth is spent.
I wonder if America really feels
Grateful for all the
Veterans who sit in chairs
With wheels,
Who now have legs of steel!
I salute them everyone
And thank God that we won
The wars of days gone by,
And shall do so until I die.
