AN OLD FLAG WILL DO
When I have gone the last mile
Down the road of the past;
I have a request of you,
Which you might say is the last.
Drape an old flag over me,
Not a new one without a tear.
I'd like an old one, for I too, am old,
And together we'd make a pair.
An old veteran of World War Two,
Who still loves the red, white, and blue.
When I hear "Oh say can you see",
A patriotic heart awakens in me.
So, do you now see
That I want an old flag over me?
Don't need to play taps.
Save that for younger chaps.
An old flag is fine;
Faded colors are O.K...
Just drape it over me
On that last and solemn day!
