viewing the beginning of
a special chapter in family history
one that will hold us in awe
a place to return to
when adjectives no longer work
describing the cost of being free
A few trees and old farm land
cleared away along with their ghosts
replaced with remains of genuine heroes
from war and preparing to defend
those who put life on the line
some to lose it early
others to live long and well
In rolling hills north of Atlanta
the new Georgia National Cemetery
receives its first occupants in April
of 2006 and for 50 years ahead
near Canton against the Appalachian
Mountains where natural beauty
and strong purpose surround
the well deserved and rewarded
burial of our nation's honored dead
