CROWN OF THORNS
When I get overwhelmed in life
And feel justice plays no part.
I see a vision of many years ago
And it breaks my mortal heart.
I think about the Crown of Thorns
And how you hung your head.
The tears our Father must have cried
With each drop of blood you shed.
And the cross you carried, knowing your fate
As you stood for what you believed.
Not giving in to abuse and torment
In a selfish search for reprieve.
With freewill you paid the ultimate price
So all mankind would be free.
And the sacrifice that our Father made
As you were nailed to the Dogwood tree.
In the shadows of darkness
I beg mercy and seek your face,
But when blue skies brighten my way
Do I praise your saving grace?
Humble me, my precious Jesus
As though I am looking through your eyes.
For when I meet our Father in Heaven
Let me face him with dignity and pride.
